The Victorian era saw the expansion of many areas into the new suburbias. The housing was built down to a price and the provision of a church was not always at the top of a developers list. To satisfy their spiritual needs, many poorer parishes bought themselves a "tin church" in kit form until such a time that funds could be raised to build a more permanent building. Most were indeed replaced, usually by the 1960's, and as a result very few of these buildings survive today.
