Dapol have released an update on the development of their all new ex LSWR/SR/BR M7 0-4-4T along with images of their latest Engineering Prototype.
The LSWR M7 is a class of 0-4-0 passenger tank locomotive built between 1897 and 1911. Drummond designed the class for use on the intensive London network of the London and South Western Railway (LSWR). 105 were built, the class went through several modifications over five production batches. For this reason, there were detail variations such as frame length. Many of the class were fitted for pull-push operations that enabled efficient use on branch line duties.
The model will feature a highly detailed body with many separately added parts die cast chassis, a 3 pole can motor and all wheel pick up
Initially eight models will be produced in the first production run, all representing short frame versions. You can pre-order the Dapol M7s here>>>

Accurascale have announced the cut down / short HYA hopper wagons.
The doubling of the UK’s carbon tax from April 2015 had a severe impact on the railway industry and almost overnight, hundreds of coal hoppers, most between five and 15 years old, were stored. While many vehicles were redeployed to carrying aggregates, this was not ideal because the more dense nature of stone compared to coal meant the wagons could only be partially filled. VTG was the first to look at reducing the length of the hoppers to make them more suitable, commissioning WH Davis at Langwith Junction to remove the centre bay – some three metres or so – from the HYA/IIA variant operated by GB Railfreight and, previously, Fastline Freight. Prototype No. 371051 was released in February 2016 and by 2021 almost half of the original build of 368 wagons had been converted for a new life as aggregate hoppers, most taken from the IRS, Romania-built batches.
All rebuilds are TOPS coded HYA, whether they started life as an HYA or an IIA, and they wear a number of different liveries and finishes depending on the owner, operator and customer. The first production batch of 24 vehicles in mid 2016 was for VTG, GB Railfreight and Tarmac and these were smartly repainted in overall light grey with a black lower section with branding for all three companies. A similar approach was taken with 2019’s GBRf/Cemex fleet, although these wear Touax, VTG or no lessor branding depending on the actual owner.
The cut down HYAs are mostly to be found behind GBRf Class 66/7s, although they work all over the UK on behalf of Aggregate Industries (from Bardon Hill, Coton Hill and Grain), Cemex (from Peak Forest), and Tarmac (from Arcow and Rylstone). They are often partnered with unmodified HYAs and IIAs and can also been seen mixed with other types, including AI, GBRf and VTG JGAs and even ex-Freightliner HHAs.

Accurascale have announced their first steam locomotive the GWR 78xx Manor in 00 gauge.
As with their diesel releases there are a number of detail configurations which makes almost every Manor model Accurascale are offering a bespoke ‘one off’ release, with options for chimney, smokebox and boiler sides, smokebox door/handles and buffers.
The range of tenders is similarly complex with different tender bodies, frames, spring hangers, buffers, and also the frame installed in latter days to remind crews not to climb onto the coal space while on overhead electrified lines. This will all be catered for by the tooling!
The Manors wore nearly all major GWR and BR liveries from 1938 until their withdrawal at the end of 1965. The first 20 were delivered in unlined GWR locomotive green with the roundel or ‘shirtbutton’ monogram logo on the tender, although by nationalisation they could be seen with tenders wearing GWR initials or GW separated by the company’s coat of arms. Repaints during wartime years would have been unlined black, with unlined green returning once hostilities ended. Unlined black was again applied after the formation of British Railways, albeit with ‘lion and wheel’ crest and smokebox-mounted numberplates. However, the BR-built Manors were released from Swindon in lined mixed traffic black, later being repainted in unlined black. Between 1956-60 all 30 Manors were turned out in lined BR green, initially with the early crest but the majority received the later style totem.
Diecast parts have been heavily utilised to ensure excellent traction capabilities, with the78xx featuring a fully diecast boiler, running plate and chassis. High fidelity plastic and etched parts will add that detail quality to ensure an industry leading locomotive.
The Accurascale Manor locomotive will feature a 3 pole motor with flywheel. Electrical pickup is from all tender and locomotive driving wheels and there is a 21-Pin MTC Socket in tender for the decoder of your choice. DCC fitted and Sound Fitted versions will also be available. There is also a flickering firebox light in the cab and in DCC this employs ESU’s intelligent flicker to synchronise the effect with the sound from the speakers.
Ten locomotives will be released in the first production run.

We are delighted to announce a further expansion of the business by moving our mail order operation to a new warehouse, located close to our existing Camborne store. Since the opening of our first store in Camborne town centre in 2002 we have seen immense growth with the mail order side of the business and further expanded with the opening of our second store in Guildford in May 2019.
The new warehouse, that has been seamlessly in operation since the end of December, will be solely for the mail order operation and increased stock holding and will not be open to the public. Our stores at Camborne and Guildford will continue to serve customers in accordance with the latest Covid-19 restrictions, with appropriate social distancing measures in place. All our existing contact details and order methods remain the same.
Our website already now reflects the stock held at the warehouse and customers wishing to use the Camborne ‘Click and ‘Collect’ will need to select the ‘Click and collect’ option when placing an order online.
Join our team
As a result of this growth, we are looking to expand our team. We therefore have new opportunities for customer service staff based at our Camborne branch and also additional staff on the picking and packing side at our new warehouse. Knowledge of model railways would be an advantage but is not essential.
Anyone interested in applying for one of the roles should email us here
Model Rail - 16xx
With the arrival of the Model Rail Magazine 16xx next week, we have already started to process orders in date order, where payment details are available and current. Due to Covid-19 it will take slightly longer than usual to process orders, so please bear with us and do not contact us for individual updates as this just slows down the process, we will contact you if necessary.
Chris Trerise says...
“The unique circumstances that we have all experienced this year has seen a further growth in the mail order side of the business. Due to the limited space available within the Camborne store this has meant that to manage the mail order operation in an efficient and Covid-19 safe way the Camborne store has been only able to operate a click and collect service for visiting customers.”
Chris continues: “We had been looking at a number of options to expand our mail order operation and the opening of our new warehouse has provided the additional space we require, and this will eventually when circumstances allow, the Camborne store to fully open once again.
We are looking forward to recruit and welcome new members to our team, providing much needed employment opportunities at this time.”

We are please to advise that the much-anticipated ex LSWR / SR Diagram 1541 10T Road Van has been approved for production. This follows the careful review and approval of the Engineering Prototypes received last year and the decorated samples of all ten of the versions being produced that we received last week.
First introduced by the London & South Western Railway (LSWR) in 1884 they were later classed as Southern Railway Diagram 1541. Almost 500 of these were built between then and 1905 making them the most numerous LSWR Goods Brake Van. Brake Vans with side doors through which parcels or other goods could be loaded were known as road vans.
The decorated livery samples can be seen above, (note that some of the samples were only the body assembly). Approval for production has been given subject to a couple of minor amendments to the printing on the solebar cast plate for two of the SR livery versions, the spacing (Kernow correcting the Kerning - a designers injoke) of the numbers on the LSWR SB003B version and the solebar and buffer colour on three of the BR grey versions.
SB003H LSWR Road Van number 54611 in pre-1936 large SR lettered livery is illustrated and shows the correct SR Goods Wagon brown, lettering style and the solebar cast plate that has wording "SR" "54611" an "Eastleigh Works" all perfectly legible.
We anticipate production to commence at the end of March 2021 (following Chinese New Year) with shipment to the UK during May 2021 (subject to shipping availability) and hope to have them in stock for fulfilment of orders at the end May /early June 2021.
