The Class 86 is one of the UKs most numerous electric locomotives and has seen a wide variety of liveries in its lifetime. Although relatively short-lived, this variation on the Railfreight Distribution scheme was among the most popular, as it took the best elements of the existing Roundel Design Group livery and added new elements such as the large Railfreight Distribution lettering, which really finished off the look.
Alongside a couple of similarly liveried wagons that are unique to this train set, you’ll enjoy a great representation of a 1990s freight train that you might have seen anywhere on the West Coast Main Line or spotted at Willesden, Crewe or Carlisle. It is often said that we were spoiled for colour in the sectorisation era of the 90s, so this attractive train set will be highly evocative of a transformational time in the history of British Railways.
Kato Unitrack is the one of the world’s most versatile N Scale model railway track systems. It can be expanded with carefully selected variation sets known as ‘V Sets’ or with individual track pieces sold in convenient packs. The track sections just clip together and hold the rail joiners firmly in place allowing a layout to be created and taken apart time and again.
A fantastic feature of the system is that Kato points already have electric motors built in and come complete with their own easy to use wiring harnesses - although they can be operated manually should you wish. Each point also has automatic switching of the frog with no additional wiring required.
The system can, of course, also be used as the basis of a permanent layout and all the conventional scenic techniques can be applied to the track but without the worry of ballasting between the sleepers. When these techniques are applied, this track system looks very realistic, turning this starter set into a model railway.
