Announced as part of the Summer 2023 British Railway Announcements, we are delighted to present this OO scale model of a BR Mk2A BFK Mainline Support Coach in BR Maroon livery.

Steam and diesel-hauled railtours are now a familiar sight on the national network, and as part of these trains you will often see support coaches marshalled immediately behind the locomotive. These invaluable vehicles are usually owned by the locomotive’s owning group, or by the same company as the excursion stock, and not only carry the train’s support crew and their tools and equipment, but even provide kitchen facilities and accommodation when away from home.

The Bahamas Locomotive Society is one such group that operates its own support coach, primarily for use with its LMS Jubilee Class locomotive No. 45596, and this is the coach depicted by this Bachmann Collectors Club Limited Edition model. Built at Derby in 1967/68 under Lot No. 30775 and withdrawn as No. W17060 in July 1996, this vehicle has been in the ownership of the Bahamas Locomotive Society since 2015. The coach was refurbished and repainted into BR Maroon livery with the number M14060 to coincide with Bahamas’s return to the mainline in 2019. With most support coaches being Mk1 or Mk2 brake vehicles, this new model is sure to be useful for anyone depicting steam operations in recent years.
