This is a magnificent attempt to bring together all the two-character headcodes ever used. 27 photographs are included.

Following the introduction there are sections on letter headcodes, LB&SCR numeric headcodes, the “current” system, still hanging on with the SWR class 455 units, alpha-numeric headcodes and destination and other displays, such as the special codes used on class 319 units on trains through the Snow Hill tunnel. Included are codes not known to have been used, such as those on the Isle of Wight (2B Ryde Pier Head to Ventnor) and west of Salisbury (1A Exeter Central to Exmouth). Routings are clarified as necessary using standard via point.

In this latest volume we now again have a valuable reference on the subject which many of us will find essential on our bookshelves, and today’s compiler and contributors deserve our thanks for their efforts.
