New release - pre-orders invited - expected Nov/Dec 2026. preauthkernow
Brand new for the Graham Farish range, we are delighted to present the BR 24.5 Ton Mineral Wagon in N scale for the first time. BR built more than 3,300 of these large open wagons over a ten-year period from the early-1950s, with some lasting in service for three decades. Two BR Diagrams were allotted, diagrams 1/115 and 1/118, with the former built with oil axleboxes, spindle buffers and single door bumpers for each side door. The later 1/118 wagons had roller bearings, Oleo buffers and twin door bumpers and both types are catered for in the new Graham Farish tooling suite. A further option allows wagons with pressed steel doors to be modelled, alongside the more common fabricated type.
Like their 16 Ton and 21 Ton counterparts the wagons had an end door for tipping and a diagonal white line on the bodyside indicated the end at which the door was located. In addition, many had large yellow triangles on each side to identify them as higher capacity wagons when being loaded at collieries, a handy aid given their similarity to the 21 Ton versions.
Each Graham Farish model comprises an injection moulded bodyshell, with fine engraving and accurate moulded detail, with a high fidelity chassis featuring full relief axleboxes, tiebars and separately fitted brake gear. Metal wheelsets and NEM coupling pockets are employed as standard. Door bumpers and buffer heads, which are turned metal, are also added individually before the wagon is treated to an immaculate paint job using accurate colours, fonts and numerals to create a masterpiece in miniature.
