Steel sleepers are becoming very common on the railways today, so often found on secondary or light-density routes. The Settle to Carlisle railway has many sections of steel-sleepered track, and a substantial number of the lines around the UK are having these installed when track replacement is required. The steel sleepers themselves have a very different and distinctive shape, being formed from pressed steel. Peco have captured this shape well, along with the detailed Pandrol rail fixings.

By its very nature steel soon takes on a rusty appearance so Peco have moulded the track base in this rust-brown colour. Modellers will no doubt wish to paint and weather the track to fit their scene.

Mixed with a combination of wooden and concrete sleepered turnouts and track, the modeller will be able to create an authentic scene from the contemporary railway today, ideal for all the modern locomotives and rolling stock now available.
