Heljan delivery and Work in Progress update

Heljan have provided an update on their business, deliveries and work in progress. This follows on from the announcement of three new 0 Gauge models announced here>>>

Situation Report
As we are reminded every day, these are exceptional times for individuals and businesses all over the world. HELJAN is no exception, and they have shared the reality of the challenges facing us in 2022/23.
Firstly, production and delivery of new models remains unpredictable due to continuing Covid lockdowns, staff shortages and power supply restrictions in China. Added to this is the significantly higher cost of shipping and longer delivery timescales as international container ship routes have not yet fully recovered to pre-pandemic levels.
Further pressure comes from constantly rising costs due to the global oil price and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which affects all aspects of manufacturing from raw plastic prices to labour costs and shipping. Economic uncertainty across the world has also affected the US dollar exchange rate, increasing the cost of new model projects across the board.
Finally, the cost of doing business in the UK has risen substantially since its departure from the EU due to higher shipping and import charges and the additional paperwork now required.
Heljan continue to do everything we can to accelerate the delivery of new products and to keep prices at an affordable level but as a small player in a global market we cannot entirely absorb such significant increases. However, we are committed to delivering what has already been promised and to bringing further new products to market in 2023/24.

Arrivals

Arriving soon is the latest batch of OO gauge Class 14s, which feature an upgraded chassis with 21-pin DCC decoder interface. Six models cover BR, industrial and preserved liveries from BR two-tone green to maroon and attractive BP and NCB colour schemes. A train pack containing a BR green Class 14 and four BR black ‘Dogfish’ hoppers will also be available, depicting a classic 1960s ballast train from the Forest of Dean. These models are en route to Europe now and all versions are currently available to order.

Available now is the new batch of O gauge Class 37/4s. This latest production run features fully numbered and named Scottish and Welsh ‘large logo’ machines and Railfreight locomotives in Petroleum, Construction and Distribution Sector liveries.

The OO gauge Class 45 ‘Peaks’ have been shipped from the Far East and should arrive in the UK in late-September or early-October. Eight versions are available for general release – three early locos with split-centre headcode panels in BR green or blue, two 1970s/80s BR blue Class 45/0s with sealed beam nose ends and the first-ever RTR models accurately depicting the widely-travelled Class 45/1 variant with electric train heating (ETH). Our ‘45/1s’ will be available with sealed beam nose ends in BR blue both with and without HI headlights. Tinsley ‘railtour green’ 45106 completes the line-up.
