| PS100 Parkside Dundas Southern Railway Banana Van Kit (Dia 1478). The Southern Railway had a considerable business in transporting bananas, imported through Southampton Docks. To cope with this traffic they built 200 of these vans in 1935, and they lasted in service until the 1960's. They were not restricted to operation in the south and were seen all over the railway network, often in block trains. They were fitted with steam heating to help ripen the fruit. This kit is a plastic injection moulding, with brass and whitemetal fittings, metal wheels and bearings and a selection of transfers for both SR and BR versions. |
