The Wolseley 18/85 was a British saloon car which the company manufactured between 1938 and 1948. It had a powerful 85 bhp, six cylinder engine with twin carburettor, overhead valve and was built on a 104” wheelbase.
As colour schemes went, it was usually black, which together with its power, became a favourite with the Police, who used it extensively.
For this release of the four-door saloon however, we’ve bucked the trend and our 18/85 is painted dark moss green with black masking to the upper body, roof, wings and wheels. The interior seating is moulded in a contrasting pale green. Exterior trim is in silver including bumpers, wheels, hub caps and door handles. Our model is registered MPJ 787. Note especially the unique Wolseley ‘Nightpass’ headlights which produced an anti-dazzle dipped headlamp/driving lamp arrangement.
By the end of production in 1948, just over 8000 Wolseley 18/85 had been made before it was superseded by the Wolseley Six.

There were many companies that carried out conversions to the J2. Some of the more popular were Woodham Brothers, Central Garage (Paralanian), Cotswold, Bluebird, Martin Walters, Autosleeper, Calthorpe and Pitt and Car-Camper. Many of the ambulances had diesel engines which was their downfall as most were auctioned and broken down for their engines which were ideal for boats.

DCCconcepts Sapphire No-Clean flux is an ideal companion that will make it possible for you to make perfect joints easily every time in electronics, soldering wires to track, working on or re-working brass, whitemetal or nickel silver kits… In fact anywhere that later clean might be difficult to do! The ONLY time you may want to clean this flux off post-soldering is if you wish to paint the area you have soldered, in that case, a simple wipe over with cloth or cotton bud dipped in Isopropyl alcohol or even methylated spirits is all that is needed.

It is these wagons that form the prototype for this Graham Farish model and the two variants – inner or outer wagons – can be modelled to suit individual needs. In normal operation HKAs run in fixed rakes with only buffers and conventional couplings fitted to the outer ends of the rake. Wagon-to-wagon coupling is by means of a buckeye, negating the need for buffers. The Graham Farish model can be configured as either; for an outer wagon the rectangular buffers, drawbar hook and screw-link coupling are fitted into the relevant bufferbeam receptacles, while for an inner variant the buckeye coupling and buckeye coupling lever is added.
MODEL FEATURES:

The history of Duple goes back to 1919 when the bus and coach bodybuilding company was funded by Herbert White in Hornsey, London. In the ensuing years, it survived two world wars, amalgamations with other companies and relocation to both Kegworth and Loughborough. The Duple Britannia belongs to the era following this decentralisation when the company became known as Duple Motor Buses (Midland) Limited, Manufactured between 1956 and 1962, It was based on its immediate predecessor the Elizabethan with underfloor engine chassis but with modified vertical pillars. Duple lasted exactly 70 years until 1989 when the Duple body designs were sold to the Carlyle Works of Birmingham.
Highly detailed in every respect, our flat fronted Duple Britannia is registered TBD 1 and the destination panel below the windscreen indicates it is heading for the British Coach Rally 1959 which was held in Brighton. Fitting therefore that the rear of our coach has the letters HMS Brighton printed under the rear window. Decorated with a bright blue lower body and a smoky blue upper body and roof, the roof lights and front roof windows are coloured in light grey with silver surrounds. The coach features the two windowed passenger door on the nearside with the driver’s door placed higher on the offside.
The interior floor and seating are moulded in smoke grey with a black dashboard and steering wheel. Outside trim is mostly silver or chrome plated and the wide radiator grille is masked black with the Britannia name etched above, the AEC winged badge and the Duple name below.
York Brothers were a local coach tour company established in 1924 based in Cogenhoe just outside Northampton and as printed on the side of the coach, their company address appears to have been 1 Derngate, Northampton. Their main business comprised school contracts, local bus services as well as private hire. We also see the coach seats 41 passengers with a maximum speed of 30 mph. The rear also tells us that the York Bros operation centred round Northampton, Kettering, Rushden and Wellingborough. In 2008 the company became part of Bowen Travel Group."

We are proud to present the iconic Quarry Hunslet as the launch locomotive for the new Bachmann Narrow Gauge NG7 Scale range. Depicting ‘Alice’, the locomotive built for the Dinorwic Quarry and after which the ‘Alice Class’ was named, this new model builds on the success of its smaller, award-winning Bachmann Narrow Gauge OO9 scale cousin. The larger NG7 scale affords a higher level of detail, along with an enhanced technical specification which includes a Next18 DCC decoder socket, pre-fitted speaker and firebox lighting system, all of which is fully utilised in this SOUND FITTED model.
With a diecast metal chassis and gearbox, coupled with a precision moulded plastic bodyshell, cylinder block, frames and footplate, the 0-4-0ST wheel formation is faithfully modelled, with authentically profiled wheels running in metal bearings which ensures smooth running. A wealth of separately fitted detail parts complete the model, including handrails, valves, springs, brake shoes and cab controls. All of this is finished with a high-fidelity livery application, using the latest techniques to capture every aspect of the prototype’s decoration. Coupling solutions provided with this new NG7 model include two types of chopper coupling and the hook and loop type used on Bachmann Narrow Gauge OO9 scale models – all of which attach via the NEM coupling pockets.

QUARRY HUNSLET ‘ALICE’ HISTORY
The Quarry Hunslet locomotives were built by the Hunslet Engine Company of Leeds. Rather than denoting a single design, the term Quarry Hunslet refers to several different locomotive types, each built to a similar design, but with specifics suited to their intended use. The first Quarry Hunslets were the Penrhyn Port Class, built for shunting duties at Port Penrhyn, the coastal port of Penrhyn Quarry – once the largest slate quarry in the world. These locomotives sported a 4ft wheelbase and the first example was delivered in 1883.
In 1886 the nearby Dinorwic Quarry, Wales’s second largest slate quarry, took delivery of its first Quarry Hunslet, named ‘Velinheli’. Smaller than the Penrhyn locos with a wheelbase of just 3ft 3in, the second Dinorwic loco, delivered in 1889 and originally named ‘Alice’, would lend its name to the locomotive type and by 1904 eleven Alice Class Quarry Hunslets had been delivered to the Dinorwic Quarry. All were built to fundamentally the same design, although details inevitably changed over the years, but a notable feature of the Alice Class locos was the angled frames and resulting shallow bufferbeams at the front and rear. At the quarry the locomotives were moved between the various galleries and to and from works via the steep inclined planes – straight frames would bottom out on these steep inclines, a problem avoided by building the locos with angled frames.
Five similar locomotives were built for use at Port Dinorwic during the same period, these shared much the same design as the Alice Class locos but had straight frames which resulted in them sporting much deeper bufferbeams. The Alice Class also provided the blueprint for six more engines which were built for smaller concerns; the Pen-Yr-Orsedd Quarry which took three, Moel Tryfan Quarry had two, and a single example was delivered to the Dorothea Quarry. The Penrhyn Quarry placed orders for four of these smaller 3ft 3in. wheelbase locomotives too – these became known as the Penrhyn Small Quarry Class to avoid any association with their rivals the Dinorwic Quarry. Penrhyn Quarry would later order another six Quarry Hunslets, but these reverted to the 4ft wheelbase used on the Penrhyn Port Class locos; whilst very similar in design, this final batch of Quarry Hunslets were different enough to be known instead as the Penrhyn Large Quarry Class.
The name ‘Alice’ was carried by two of the Alice Class Quarry Hunslets that were built for the Dinorwic Quarry. The first was works number 492 of 1889, the second locomotive to be delivered after ‘Velinheli’. Around 1908 the 1889-built locomotive was renamed ‘King of the Scarlets’. The second ‘Alice’, and the locomotive depicted by this Bachmann Narrow Gauge model, was the eighth of its type, built in 1902 as works number 780 and identified simply as No. 4 upon delivery, but the name ‘Alice’ was applied soon after.
Working on various levels at Dinorwic Quarry, by 1945 ‘Alice’ had moved up to the Australia level some 1,800 feet above sea level where she remained for the rest of her working life – being recorded as out of service in 1960. Thereafter ‘Alice’ was plundered for parts to keep other locomotives working, and she was left abandoned in her shed on Australia level as the quarry closed in 1969. The wheels and various other parts from ‘Alice’ were purchased by the new owner of ‘Holy War’, primarily as a source of spares, and like ‘Holy War’, ‘Alice’ was moved first to Quainton Road and then to the Bala Lake Railway. Meanwhile, the locomotive’s frames and tank had been recovered and taken to a site near Preston, these were later sold and moved to the Bala Lake Railway so that what remained of ‘Alice’ was together again.
The remains of ‘Alice’ were sold to Chris Scott in 1987 who moved the parts to his garage and by 1994 ‘Alice’ had been restored and returned to steam at the Ffestiniog Railway. A new boiler had been constructed which was financed by the Leighton Buzzard Railway and after returning to steam, ‘Alice’ moved there, calling the Bedfordshire line home until 2003 when she moved back to the Bala Lake Railway. Purchased by Julian Birley, Chairman of the Bala Lake Railway Trust, in 2010, her future was secured and ‘Alice’ now resides at the North Wales line alongside three other Alice Class Quarry Hunslets; ‘George B’, ‘Holy War’ and ‘Maid Marian’, Penrhyn Port Class ‘Winifred’ and Penrhyn Small Quarry Class ‘Nesta’.

35308 Exclusive First Editions 36ft BET 6 Bay Leyland Leopard Single Deck Bus in Southdown livery.
Southdown Motor Service LTD was created in 1915 midst the turbulence of WWI, it was formed by the joining of three major operators: Worthing Motor Services, London & South Coast Haulage Co and the country services of the Brighton, Hove & Preston United Omnibus Co.
Over the following years Southdown acquired many other smaller companies, which brought a diverse collection of vehicles into their fleet, though from the start they showed a preference for busses of Leyland manufacture, which would last until their acquisition in 1969 by the state owned National Bus Company.
Today Southdown lives on as part of the Stagecoach group, which still runs the Portsmouth to Brighton 700 ‘Coastline’ route and still uses some of Southdown’s original depots.
Southdown is remembered for many things, leading the field in British and Continental coach tours, their network of express services from London to the coastal towns of Hampshire and Sussex, but mostly for their fleet of pristine ‘cars’ decorated in a distinctive apple green and cream livery, which left a lasting impression on locals and holidaymakers alike.
To celebrate the centenary of Southdown, Bachmann Europe are delighted to offer this limited edition EFE collectors model. Each model features its own numbered certificate produced in a beautiful and unique design style. Our model depicts the preserved 36’ Marshal bodied Leyland Leopard BUF 122C, which first entered service with Southdown in 1965. Decorated in the classic livery, numbered 122 and shown working on route 18 to Brighton. This certificated EFE model will be a must have for all fans of historic buses, The Southdown Company and model bus collecting.

VA13207B Corgi Vanguard Opel Kadett (E) GSI 16V, Weiss, LHD Germany
Opel's Kadett E was launched in 1984 to replace the Kadett D and the GSI followed shortly after. However, to counter competition from Peugeot, Ford and VW in the hot-hatch market, the GSI 16V was revealed in 1988. It featured a fire-breathing Cosworth-developed XE20 'red-top' twin-cam engine, which sang above 4000rpm. This made it, by some margin, the fastest hot-hatch of its era in a straight line; no surprise for a 152PS car which weighed around a tonne and had impressive aerodynamics. Although its torque-steer was almost as legendary as its straight-line performance its raucous nature was part of the appeal and it's now seen as one of the greats of the late eighties.

The Trumpeter British Warrior Up-Armoured Model Kit in 1/72 scale from the plastic military model kits range accurately recreates the real life British Tracked Mechanised Combat Vehicle.
Warrior is an armoured infantry fighting vehicle (AIFV) that replaced the AFV 432 in the armoured infantry battalions. The original buy of Warrior was reduced to 789 units. Of this total the vast majority had been delivered by early 1995. Warrior armed with the 30 mm Rarden cannon gives the crew a good chance of destroying enemy APCs at ranges of up to 1,500 m and the vehicle carries a crew of three and seven dismounted infantry.

A20440V Airfix 1930 4.5 litre Bentley.
With its front mounted supercharger, the 4.5 litre Bentley became the quintessential British sports car of the 20s and 30s. It was shaped from the earlier 4-cylinder 3 Litre, but produced substantially more power with its blown engine. As such, it was a stunning road car and a perfect contender for endurance racing. Due to its dramatic appearances at Le Mans and successes in speed trials at the Brooklands circuit, racing and winning became synonymous with Bentley during this period and few other models capture this image as well as the 4.5 litre Bentley. The number 9 car featured in this kit, UU5872, is the original Birkin Team Car known as 'Birkin Blower No. 2'. This is the car that made a dramatic appearance at the 1930 Le Mans 24 Hour Race. In 1929, Bentley replaced the 4.5 litre and opted to race the higher capacity Speed 6. Three 'Birkin Blowers' were entered to compete alongside the Bentley Speed 6s at the 1930 Le Mans. In the event, only one Blower, (Birkins own No. 2 car), started the race. Under Walter Owen Bentleys tactical team management, Birkins role was to draw the Mercedes of Carraciola and Werner into a high speed duel, which he successfully achieved. The Blower lead from the start, swapping the lead with the Mercedes throughout the night, until eventually the German car withdrew with a blown engine. Birkins success came at a cost, as he had to retire after 20 hours with a bent valve, leaving the two Speed 6s to take 1st and 2nd Places. Power: 240bhp; Wheelbase: 3 metres; Weight: 1,930kg. GM4240401 Heljan Class 02 0-4-0DH Diesel Shunter in Industrial Redland Kahki ex D2846
These tiny four-wheeled shunters were designed to reach the places other locomotives could not; with a wheelbase of just 6ft they were able to tackle sharply curved lines in streets, docks, warehouses and factories and even use traditional wagon turntables. They were a direct replacement for the legendary Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway ‘Pug’ 0-4-0STs working dock lines in Liverpool, Manchester and beyond. Around 50 similar locomotives were built for industrial railways, in many cases with electric rather than hydraulic transmission.
As the work they were built for vanished in the 1960s, many of the 20-strong class found further work in industry, with some surviving well into the 1980s before being rescued for preservation. Highly regarded by crews for their Rolls-Royce engine, all-round visibility and unique (for a BR locomotive) rear platform for shunting staff, they continue to play a useful role in shunting and engineering work at heritage railways. One locomotive, D2860, was even claimed by the National Railway Museum as the perfect shunter for its Great Hall in York.
