History:
The Mk1 was BR’s first standardised design of railway carriage with thousands built across BR’s carriage works in Derby, Wolverton, Doncaster, York, Eastleigh and Swindon, between 1951 and 1963. The ‘TSO’ is a Tourist Second Open, the most numerous of the BR standard open types. From 1987, BR changed the title of these vehicles to Tourist Standard Open when Second Class became Standard Class across the BR network. Seating is arranged 2+2 either side of a central aisle.
