These locomotives have a lower gear ratio, enabling heavier trains to be hauled, albeit at a reduced maximum speed of 65mph. The locomotive was named ‘Derek W. Johnson MBE’ after the Chairman of Johnson Stevens Agencies Ltd., who placed the winning bid to name it at the Freightliner 40th Anniversary dinner, in February 2006.
