The ‘County’ Class was the last of the GWR-designed two-cylinder 4-6-0s, with 30 built at Swindon between 1945 and 1947 to the design of Chief Mechanical Engineer, Frederick Hawksworth.
‘County of Dorset’ entered service in February 1946 and spent most of its early years in the West Country at Bristol, Plymouth, Truro and Penzance, before transferring to Shrewsbury in December 1951. Its final move was to Swindon in September 1963, from where it was withdrawn in July the following year and scrapped at Cashmore’s yard in Newport, South Wales.
The Hornby catalogue shows this model as 8 Pin DCC Socket, but their website shows 21 Pin Socket. Once the model arrives we will see what it really is and update accordingly!
