Golden Valley Hobbies Conversion NEM Pockets

Based on our testing, we have found that these converters can be used to convert Mk1's, Mk2's, and Mk3's with a little bit of work. For those technically inclined, they are compatible with Lima - B1 Bogie, B4 Bogie, and BT10 Bogie.

These models typically feature a similar moulding with a Big D type coupling. By using this converter, you can upgrade the bogie to meet NEM coupling standards, allowing you to fit a coupling of your choice, such as a tension lock or Kadee coupler.

To begin the conversion process, you will need to cut and remove the old Big D type loop using flush cutters. Then, remove the hook. Using the NEM converter as a guide, scribe the width of the pocket and measure back 7mm. Cut the channel using a Dremel cutting disc or a coping saw. If using a Dremel, take care to clean any melted plastic residue.

Once the channel is cut, check the fit of the converter and also ensure that the height is appropriate before fitting it permanently. To achieve a proper fit, lightly sand the plastic surface using a fibreglass pen or wet and dry sandpaper. Apply some araldite adhesive and allow it to dry thoroughly before using the converted model.

By following these steps, you can successfully upgrade your bogies to NEM coupling standards and enjoy the flexibility of choosing your preferred couplings.
