57-003A Bachmann MLA Bogie Open Wagon EWS

New release - pre-orders invited - expected Dec 2026 / Jan 2027.

We’ve developed a brand new suite of tooling to bring the MLA wagon to the Bachmann Branchline range for the first time – creating the perfect rolling stock to run with locomotives like the Branchline Class 66 and 69 diesels.

The real MLAs were first ordered by GB Railfreight (GBRf) as part of their contract with Metronet which was undertaking infrastructure renewal work on the London Underground. GBRf took delivery of 90 wagons in 2006, followed by a further 50 which went to Network Rail as part of an exchange for MRA side-tipping wagons. All 140 wagons were delivered in a bold yellow colour scheme. The GBRf wagons had a small door on either side; a feature not replicated on the Network Rail or EWS versions. The following year EWS ordered a fleet of 105 MLAs, only these ran on Axiom bogies as opposed to the Y25 type used under the 2006-built examples. The EWS wagons were delivered in their house maroon and yellow colour scheme. Almost two decades in and still going strong, the MLAs have been deployed around the UK, usually on ballast duties.

The new Branchline MLAs boast a highly detailed, injection moulded bodyshell that authentically captures the ribbed bodysides of the prototype. The body sits on a diecast chassis, providing a low centre of gravity for assured smooth running, adorning which is a comprehensive selection of underframe equipment, with metal wire grab handles fitted below each of the heavy-duty buffers, and on each bodyside. The bogies are modelled in full relief and are finished with metal wheelsets and tension lock couplings that attach via NEM pockets. The bold livery carried by these wagons has been faithfully reproduced with accurate paintwork that is only enhanced by the logos, text and markings which add the finishing touches to this Branchline model.
