New release - pre-orders invited - expected during 3rd Quarter 2025. preauthkernow

LMS - Princess Coronation - 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland'       Experience the grandeur of British steam heritage with the Hornby TT:120 LMS ‘Princess Coronation’ Class ‘Pacific’ 6233 ‘Duchess of Sutherland’. Designed by the legendary Sir William Stanier, this iconic 4-6-2 locomotive has been faithfully recreated in Era 3 livery and features a 5-pole skew-wound motor & NEM coupling system. Metal buffers complete the premium finish while its DCC Ready 18-pin socket makes digital conversion effortless. Enhance your Duchess of Sutherland locomotive with a selection of Hornby’s meticulously crafted LMS coaches.

The ‘Princess Coronations’, also known as ‘Duchesses’, were the ultimate LMS express locomotives, built to the design of William Stanier, 38 of which entered service; the first in June 1937, the last not until May 1948 under the auspices of British Railways. Twenty-four of the class carried streamlining, which was removed from 1946 onward, but 6233 wasn’t one of them, having been built in conventional form and entering service in July 1938. It was fitted with a double chimney in 1941 and in 1946 received smoke deflectors, becoming BR 46233 in 1948 and withdrawn in February 1964. It is preserved at the Midland Railway-Butterley and has been a regular operator on the main line. The model depicts ‘Duchess of Sutherland’ in as-built condition, prior to being fitted with a double-chimney in 1941.
