We announce two Exclusive OO Gauge LBSC D1 0-4-2 tank locos No. 274 ‘Guildford’ and No. 229 ‘Dorking’ both in in Stroudley's 'improved' engine green livery.
William Stroudley followed his successful A1 Terrier class with the equally successful D1 0-4-2 tanks Built over thirteen years, the first, appeared in November 1873 whilst the last, the 125th, was not built until December 1886. Initially built at Brighton, some 35 examples were built by Neilson & Co of Glasgow. The original series of Brighton-built locomotives had wooden brake blocks, but for subsequent locos iron blocks were fitted from new.
Although members of the class were withdrawn regularly from as early as 1904 onwards 112 of the class entered Southern Railway stock. Twenty managed to just survive into BR ownership although none carried the 32xxx numbers and No. 2359 was the last to be withdrawn in July 1951.
Our Kernow Model Rail Centre Exclusive highly detailed LBSC D1 0-4-2 Tank Locomotives in 00 Gauge is being produced by Rapido Trains UK Ltd. The model is based on their newly announced new tooled model. The models feature factory fitted speakers, front and rear NEM 362 coupler pockets, sprung buffers, a Next 18 DCC decoder socket, and firebox flicker with a dynamic fire draw effect on DCC-fitted models, stay alive powerpacks and 6-wheel drive from a coreless motor.
The build variations for these exclusive models include Stroudley boiler, flush-riveted smokebox, condensing gear, original smokebox door, Stroudley chimney, original dome with Salter safety valves, firebox-mounted whistle. control arm-type handrail, Stroudley clack valves, wooden brake blocks on ‘Guildford’ and iron brake blocks on ‘Dorking’, internally mounted sandpipes, early Westinghouse pump and plain bufferbeam.
The Exclusive Rapido D1 Tank locomotives are £159.99 for each DCC Ready or £259.99 for the DCC Sound Fitted version, due 2027, are below:

With the D1 tanks carrying names of towns including ‘Guildford’ and nearby ‘Dorking’, it made them an obvious choice as Kernow Model Rail Centre exclusive models.”
