We announce an Exclusive OO gauge ‘Porth Emmet dairy’ milk tank and a 7-plank open to commemorate Mike Romans.
Porthemmet is situated fictitiously in north Cornwall and has the largest beach in the county. Due to an influx from the Gulf Stream, Porthemmet has very warm waters and looks more like a tropical paradise than a beach in the UK. The name is derived from the Cornish words ‘porth’ and ‘emmet’ and translates as ‘port of the tourist’! Their local dairy was obviously rail connected and required milk for producing copious amounts of clotted cream…
Mike Romans, who sadly passed away in December 2025, was both a gentleman and career ‘Western’ railwayman, who freely assisted us with research and advice on several of our exclusive models. He was a regular at the KMRC shop open events often travelling from Henley to Camborne to spend the entire day and sample one or often more pasties.
To commemorate his passing KMRC have commissioned a limited-edition seven plank open wagon lettered M. Romans of Henley numbered 4825 (year of his birth and passing). At the Camborne shop open event on Friday 11th September KMRC unveiled a ‘Blue Plaque’ marking Mike’s contribution to KMRC, in the presence of his son Robert.
The Kernow Model Rail Centre Exclusive models in OO gauge are being produced for KMRC by Dapol Limited, based on their standard six-wheel milk tank wagon and seven plank open wagon.
