We produce the LSWR Adams O2 0-4-4T locomotives with tooling owned exclusively by Kernow Model Rail Centre.
Designed by William Adams for the London and South Western Railway, 60 of these locomotives were built at Nine Elms Works between 1889 and 1895 primarily for London suburban traffic. Displaced by more powerful locomotives the O2s were dispersed throughout the LSWR system, their short wheelbase and relatively light weight being particularly suited to restricted branch lines. A number were fitted with the original short lived LSWR mechanical wire and pulley pull push gear and later the SR standard 'Air Control' pull push system. 
The last ten, ordered in 1893, differed slightly from the first 50 by having modified stove pipe chimneys and 6 inch higher cab roofs (Note: our tooling suite does not currently allow for these last ten versions or those fitted with stove pipe chimneys).
As electrification extended and other more modern traction was introduced some examples were transferred to the Isle of Wight and fitted with Westinghouse pumps for air braking. Initially nine O2s were sent over to the Island, but they were so successful that a further 14 were sent over, the final two being sent over in 1949. None of those sent over were from the final series of 10 with the higher cab roofs. They were ideal for Island duties except for the lack of adequate coal bunker space, so in 1932 a much larger extended bunker was fitted to W19 (formerly 206), and this design subsequently became the standard for all the Island locomotives.
Despite some early withdrawals the O2s lasted well into BR days when branch line closures left all the remaining mainland locomotives withdrawn by 1962.
On the Isle of Wight they continued in front-line service until withdrawn in December 1966. Two examples remained to work engineering trains during electrification work, one of which survived to be preserved.
This preserved example, number 24 "Calbourne", was laser scanned at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. The data from this scan, in conjunction with drawings of the original locomotives, allowed us to create accurate models of these popular prototypes, including both types of coal bunker.
Further to the now sold out batch of our Adams O2s announced as part of the EFE Rail brand in Autumn 2021, that included a fourth new version W24 'Calbourne' exclusively available from our friends at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway a further five versions were announced as part of the EFE Rail range in Summer 2024.
Two of these models also featured new tooling to allow for the earlier versions of the prototype with open coal rails.
