The class was given names of merchant shipping companies associated with Southampton Docks, of which CTG – Compagnie Générale Transatlantique – was one, though it was widely known simply as ‘French Line’. The locomotive became BR No. 35019 in 1948 and was fitted with the new style wedge-shape cab and turned out in express passenger blue.
