From 1986, BR hired an eventual fleet of 50 OBA wagons to Plasmor for its building block traffic, this initially running from Knottingley and then Heck to destinations such as Bow in East London, Biggleswade and Willesden. All of the OBAs received extended ends to help retain the load while over 30 of them gained Plasmor’s orange and green livery upon this modification, the rest retaining either maroon or Railfreight red/grey. By 1991, some 20 wagons had been returned to BR following the introduction of the mesh-sided PNAs that were converted from VCA van chassis while most of the remaining OBAs were sold to Plasmor in 1997 and rebuilt in the same manner.
