The Class 59 Co-Co locomotives were built between 1985 and 1995 by Electro-Motive Diesel. A total of 15 locomotives were built for three different operators.

They were the first privately owned diesel locomotives to operate regularly on the British main line, also the first diesel locomotives built for it in the United States. The first Class 59/0s were ordered by Foster Yeoman and entered service in February 1986 working out their Merehead depot.
ARC Southern ordered four Class 59/1s that entered service in November 1990 these locomotives had a revised front light clusters.

ARC Southern and Foster Yeoman collaborated to form Mendip Rail in October 1993 to consolidate the management and operation of their respective fleets of locomotives and rolling stock, concentrating maintenance of all members of the class (including the Class 59/2s originally purchased by National Power, later operated by EWS and DB Schenker).

The Kernow Model Rail Centre Exclusive highly detailed model in N Gauge is being produced for KMRC by Revolutions Trains. The model features: a diecast chassis, wheels to NMRA RP25 standards, a detailed body with etched and wire separately fitted parts, Separate (not solid) angled struts connecting body to chassis to allow distinctive see-through appearance of the prototype, buffer beam detailing with one end super-detailed with solid air dam, air pipes and cosmetic coupler all fitted, (alternative solid air dam supplied for coupler end, and open air dam for those wishing to couple at both ends), body-mounted, kinematic close couplers with NEM coupler socket, working accurate headlights including working marker lights (switchable using easy to access microswitches or with DCC).
The model also includes a lift off, easy-access central body section to allow easy access to the Next 18 DCC decoder socket and light switches. Models include a factory fitted speaker for easy sound fitting.

The two liveries exclusively available are: 59 002 “Alan J Day” in Medip Rail Livery and 59 101 “Village of Whatley” in revised ARC livery.

In 2000, 59 002 “Alan J Day” was painted in the unique attractive green, light grey and orange Mendip Rail livery, the only 59 to carry this livery.
59 002 is a “standard” 59/0 in their modified form with NRN pods on the roof above the cab rears and with modified yaw dampers (all of which are correctly modelled on our model).

59 101 “Village of Whatley” was re-painted in revised ARC livery in 1998 to match the style of the revised Foster Yeoman livery (the design is the same with only the band colour changing from blue to yellow and the company logo changing). ARC was bought at by Hanson shortly after and 59 101 was later repainted into Hanson livery

The Exclusive models are priced at £159.99 and both are available to pre-order with delivery expected Quarter 2 2023.
